"We wanted more output and a better soil finish," says Tom Wayne. He farms with his parents at Fox Fields Farm in Radbourne, England. “I really wanted the Kverneland No28 mouldboards, and I’m very pleased with the results and the finish they produce.”
Tom's Massey Ferguson 7618 has 650mm wide tires. The new Kverneland mouldboard plough design fits these wider tires well. It allows the tires to run in-furrow without affecting the finish quality.
SA Wayne is a mixed farm with 220 dairy cows, followers, and beef cattle, primarily focusing on grassland. Around 100 acres of arable crops provide cereals for feed rations and straw bedding for livestock.
"We purchased a used 3-meter Kverneland power harrow drill combination. This helps us prepare seedbeds and plant crops efficiently. By using a reliable two-pass cultivation and drilling system, we can ensure successful crop establishment, even in challenging weather conditions."
Tom's Kverneland 2300S Reversible Plough has a popular plough setup. It includes knock-on points, auto-reset bodies, and manual vari-width. Tom currently sets his Kverneland plough to 16-inch furrow widths.
Maize skimmers manage crop residue well to improve ploughing performance. The Kverneland rear discs create a clean, clear furrow wall, ensuring the soil is ready for the next planting stage.
"We chose a longer point-to-point clearance of 100cm. This is great for clearing trash and ploughing old grass leys, though it does make a five-furrow mounted plough quite long," he adds.
"That said, the clean, level finish and matched furrows make drilling enjoyable. This ensures we get a consistent planting depth."
